Crime & Abuse Victim Advocacy

Giving Survivors a Voice, Pursuing Justice, and Finding Closure

When you or someone you love has been the victim of a violent crime, sexual abuse, or child abuse, the road toward healing and justice can feel isolating and overwhelming. You don’t have to go through it alone.

At Brumitt Legal, I help survivors find their voice, fight back, and begin rebuilding their lives with strength and dignity. My mission is to help you be heard, to hold wrongdoers accountable, and to help you achieve justice and closure — in whatever form that means for you.

Why Victims Need More Than Just a Criminal Case

Many people believe that once a perpetrator is arrested or charged, justice will automatically follow. Unfortunately, the criminal justice system is focused on punishing offenders — not always on healing victims.

That’s why I focus on the second part of the process — victim advocacy. In Missouri, you may have two parallel cases:

  1. A criminal case, controlled by the prosecutor and focused on guilt and punishment.

  2. A civil case or advocacy process, focused on your rights, recovery, and voice.

Even when prosecutors secure a conviction, you may still feel unseen, unheard, or unsupported. Civil advocacy gives you the power to pursue justice on your terms — to hold institutions and individuals accountable, seek financial compensation, and find your own version of closure.

Who I Represent

I represent survivors and victims across Missouri, including:

  • Victims of violent crime — including assault, robbery, domestic violence, and homicide.

  • Survivors of sexual abuse or sexual assault, whether recent or from years ago.

  • Child abuse victims and families impacted by abuse in schools, churches, sports, daycares, or other institutions.

  • Families pursuing wrongful death claims resulting from abuse or criminal acts.

  • Victims of institutional negligence or cover-ups that allowed abuse or harm to occur.

Every survivor’s story is different, but all deserve to be believed, respected, and fiercely advocated for.

How I Help You Reclaim Control

My approach is built around three goals: Voice. Justice. Closure.

I Help You Have a Voice

You are not just a case file. I will take the time to listen — really listen — to your story. Together, we’ll decide what justice looks like for you. I work with compassion and trauma-informed care to make the process as safe, transparent, and empowering as possible.

I Fight for Justice

I pursue every available legal option to hold offenders and negligent institutions accountable. This includes civil lawsuits against abusers, employers, churches, schools, and other organizations that failed to protect you. I gather evidence, review investigative reports, work with experts, and challenge those who allowed harm to happen.

I Help You Find Closure

Justice is not only about courtrooms or verdicts — it’s about helping you reclaim your power, security, and peace of mind. I seek meaningful results that help you move forward, including compensation for emotional and physical harm, treatment costs, therapy, lost opportunities, and pain and suffering.

Why Choose Me — Attorney Andrew Brumitt

  • You will work directly with me, not an assistant or case manager.

  • I am a trial attorney — prepared to take your case as far as needed to achieve justice.

  • I handle both criminal and civil aspects of abuse and victim cases, ensuring every angle of your story is protected.

  • I bring a trauma-informed and survivor-focused approach to every client relationship.

  • I make sure my clients always know what’s happening — no unanswered calls, no confusion, no being left out of your own case.

Common Questions Survivors Ask

Q: Isn’t the criminal case enough?
A: No. The prosecutor’s case is about punishing the offender. My role is to help you heal, recover damages, and have a meaningful say in the process — whether or not there’s a conviction.

Q: What if the perpetrator wasn’t convicted or even charged?
A: You still have rights. Civil claims operate separately from criminal cases, and you can pursue accountability even if the State doesn’t.

Q: How long do I have to file a claim?
A: Missouri’s statutes of limitations for sexual and child abuse claims have changed over time. Some cases can still be brought even decades later. The sooner we discuss your situation, the better.

What My Advocacy Can Include

  • Filing civil lawsuits against offenders and negligent institutions.

  • Helping you prepare victim impact statements in criminal proceedings.

  • Coordinating with law enforcement and prosecutors to ensure your rights are respected.

  • Helping survivors obtain protective orders, counseling referrals, and victim compensation.

  • Pursuing settlements or judgments that cover therapy, medical care, lost wages, and emotional trauma.

I understand how hard it can be to tell your story — especially when you’ve been betrayed by people or institutions that should have protected you. My job is to stand beside you through every step and to make sure your voice is heard.

The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely upon advertisements. Every case is unique and must be evaluated on its own facts. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes.
